In "Gripped", I dip my toe into surrealism and explore the mind’s eye - a space where we visualize, imagine, and remember. We can be gripped in many ways - by fear, anxiety, insecurity, excitement, awe… and grief, the most powerful emotion. Rather than deny certain feelings or allow them to overpower us, we can seek balance, and make way for light and energy.
In this work, I’ve written, "In my mind’s eye, I am gripped with longing…" - a reflection of intense yearning that takes shape through vivid memories, imagined possibilities, and often an emotional weight that colours everything past, present, and future. The butterflies and knots come from the gut connection, the eye represents fight or flight, while the rose speaks to the creative right side of the brain, and the inverted triangle with the trapped butterfly reflects the analytical left side. The entire piece tells a story...
